Equine-Facilitated Learning
Equine-Facilitated Learning is an experiential learning process that involves an individual working alongside a horse under the guidance of a trained coach to do the self-reflection and deliberation that is common within professional development contexts.
Horses as Reflections of Ourselves
Over the thousands of years that horses have lived alongside humans, they have adapted to accurately reflect back to us our emotions and energy. Horses effectively provide insight into our mindset, demeanour, and behaviour, and when facilitated by a trained coach, can provide an extraordinary learning experience.
Our Equine-Facilitated Learning practise is led by Lara Holliday, Proprietress of Shore Hall.
Lara is an accomplished executive coach and group facilitator who uses nature-based wellness practices to enhance leadership skills and personal growth. Her diverse career includes significant roles in corporate, creative, nonprofit, and government sectors, including work with the New York City Department of Education and on Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign. She is a Senior Member of the ACCPH, holds a certification in Equine Facilitated Learning, and earned a BA from New York University. Lara is a TedX speaker and has been recognised as an OBO Top 100 innovator.
How it Works
We work alongside horses — we do not ride them — and you do not need any experience with horses to gain from this unique and powerful experience.
During an Equine-Facilitated Learning session, you may find yourself stroking a horse, grooming a horse, walking alongside a horse, or simply observing a horse in a paddock, alongside a certified coach.
