Join us for an informative Sourdough Masterclass led by fermenting expert and Primal Health coach Kev Palmer of Fire, Ferment, Smoke. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll dive into the art and science of sourdough, starting from scratch with a wild yeast starter—an essential, living culture that will become the heart of your bread-making journey.
Kev will guide you through everything you need to know about cultivating and nurturing this starter for a lifetime of baking.
Wild Yeast Starter Basics: Learn how to create and maintain your own wild yeast starter—a live, bubbling community of beneficial bacteria and yeasts that naturally ferment and leaven the bread.
The Art & Health Benefits of Sourdough: Discover the nutritional value of sourdough, including how fermentation breaks down gluten and phytic acid, making it gentler on digestion and rich in probiotics.
Hands-On Baking Experience: Under Kev's guidance, we’ll shape and bake a loaf, learning the techniques behind kneading, proofing, scoring, and achieving that perfect crust and chewy crumb.
Cultured Butter Making: Complement your fresh bread with creamy, tangy cultured butter made from scratch, adding another probiotic boost to your plate.
Take-Home Starter: At the end of the class, take away your very own Fire-Ferment-Smoke sourdough starter, along with some dough and tips for maintaining your baking practice at home.
Sourdough has been cherished for centuries for its distinctive flavour, versatility, and health benefits. Unlike commercial bread, sourdough’s natural fermentation promotes a more balanced gut microbiome, enhancing digestibility and improving health.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker, this masterclass is a chance to elevate your skills, deepen your knowledge of fermentation, and gain a new understanding of bread as a nourishing, living food.
